Daniel Wallace

Hey Everyone!  My name is Daniel Wallace and I am running to be one of your 2009/2010 ASUA Student Body Senators.  I am a sophomore here at the UA double majoring in molecular and cellular biology and interdisciplinary studies.  I am involved with numerous organizations on our campus, including Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity, Alpha Epsilon Delta Pre-Medicine Fraternity, S’mores Sophomore Honorary and Greek Life, as well as serving you as your 2008/2009 ASUA Administrative Chief of Staff and playing on our club hockey team, the University of Arizona Icecats.

As a senator, I plan on constantly working for the betterment of our university with our students as my first priority.  There are several things I plan on doing if elected to Senate and here are just a couple of my current platforms.

The general education system on our campus is very outdated, and we are the only tier 1 research university in the country to do general education like we do. It would be beneficial to the students of our university to change our general education system so that there are less out of major classes required, less overall credits required, and classes offered that are applicable to future academic success.

The second thing I would like to focus on is ASUA Outreach and Transparency.  ASUA offers so many beneficial university programs and services, and very few students actually know what ASUA does and what ASUA offers. Getting more students informed and involved in ASUA is crucial to the growth and development of our student government as a whole. In my current capacity as the ASUA Administrative Chief of Staff, I am coordinating the first ASUA Day on the UA mall in an effort to reach out to students, inform students of what we do, and get students excited and interested in what we do.

This highlights just a couple of the many great ideas I have to better our university and the students of our university as a whole.  I plan on working my hardest for you, the students of the University of Arizona, if elected a senator and will always represent you to the best of my ability.
